iOS: Star Walk Kids: Astronomy Game – Stars and planets for children (iPhone, iPad)

APP OF THE DAY

The Night Sky is mind-bogglingly vast, but Star Walk Kids can give young stargazers a guided tour.

As with the original Star Walk app, when you point your device skyward using Star Walk Kids, you see exactly which stars and planets are above you. Tap one to see its name.

This kids-centric app, however, takes a simple, playful approach. Your guide is a friendly cow.

The app has children embark on "missions," during which they listen to audio clips and watch short videos to learn about various celestial bodies.

Did you know that the craters on Mercury were named after famous artists and writers? Or that during the Mars winter, nearly 20 percent of the planet's atmosphere is frozen?

The first mission starts with the sun, then moves on to Mercury, Venus, Earth, the moon, and comets. And with three missions the sky is literally the limit.

Uncover and collect more planets and stars by watching and listening to the facts for each celestial body, as well as playing the illustrated quizzes to test your child's learning. Want to revisit or find out more about a star or planet? Visit the in-app Cinema located on the homepage to rewatch and discover more entertaining clips, designed to be brief yet educational to help keep your child engaged.

With its fun characters and cute animated design, Star Walk Kids is a must-have for all budding astronomers and astronauts.
